Dr Asimul Islam is an Associate professor at the Centre for Interdisciplinary Research in Basic Sciences, Jamia Millia Islamia, (a Central University), New Delhi. He has significantly contributed to the field of protein folding and stress biology. His work on osmolytes and their mechanism against harsh environmental conditions is published in reputed journals like Journal of Biological Chemistry (JBC), Biochemistry, International Journal of Biological Macromolecules (IJBMM) and Journal of Biomolecular Structure and Dynamics (JBSD), etc. He has contributed to the development of excluded volume theory that explains how additives can affect protein stability. Dr Islam has done remarkable research on the determination of protein stability in the presence of crowding agents that mimic the environment of the protein in the cell. He is also a member of the National Academy of Sciences, India (NASI), one of the oldest and premier scientific bodies of India. Dr Asimul Islam had received many prestigious awards in 2019, viz. Research Peace Award 2019-20 under the title International Best Researcher in Protein Folding by Research under Literal Access Awards (RULA), the Outstanding Researcher in Molecular and Structural Biology under the Biomedical Sciences Discipline by Venus International Foundation, NESA Eminent Scientist of The Year Award-2019 by National Environmental Science Academy, and the Fellow Award- 2019 by Agricultural and Environmental Technology Development Society (AETDS). Recently, he was awarded Research Excellence Award 2020 by the Institute of Scholars, An ISO 9001:2015 certified Institute by International Accurate Certification, Accredited by UASL. He has delivered 50 plus Invited talks at major research institutes like IIT-Guwahati, IIT-BHU, AMU, Jamia Hamdrad, Alagappa Univesity, Indian Sciences Congress, etc. He has published 170 plus research articles in reputed National and International, with overall citation of more than 2000, h-index as 24 and i-10 index as 67. Dr Islam has handled 7 research projects financed by U.G.C., C.S.I.R., DST-SERB, and ICMR. Recently, his research focuses on protein aggregation, protein misfolding and neurodegenerative diseases like Alzheimer's and Parkinson's.
